The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Hon. Isaac Adongo has defended his tag to some officials of the ruling government “Akyem Sakawa boys’’ statement which has generated rage by some youth from the Akyem state some weeks ago.

According to Hon. Adongo, “he owes no one an apology since his statement was certain and not directed to Akyem ethnic group in the country.” He stated.

The legislator in an interview with Kwame Adinkrah on Kumasi-based Pure FM stressed that the ‘Sakawa boys’ reference has come to stay if the ‘bad nuts’ in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are not flushed out or change their ways.

Hon. Adongo explained that President Akufo-Addo is only clamoring for sympathy votes knowing very well he is losing the December polls and so he [Adongo] would repeat same statement if they continue to behave in “sakawa ways.”

He further said “If they continue to behave in way of sakawa, that is the word I will use. If they behave in an honorable way, I will describe them as changed honorables.

Hon. Adongo has assured that he would repeat same statement if they continue to behave in “sakawa ways.”

Referencing to his tag on some government officials, the Bolgatanga MP indicated that, he learnt the name calling from ‘his senior brother’, the Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and revealed that, he picked his statement from Arthur Kennedy’s book ‘Chasing the elephant into the bush in which the Akyem Mafia was used by the author’ and so he substituted ‘Mafia’ for ‘sakawa boys’.
