Govt, Grants Scholarship to Daughter of Slain Teacher

The scholarship secretariat of Ghana has awarded a full scholarship to the daughter of a teacher who was murdered in Asiakwa in the Eastern region of Ghana

The young lady, Charlotte Somuah, who is the eldest child of the murdered teacher has been granted a full four year scholarship to undertake an undergraduate studies at the Robert Gordon University in the United Kingdom on the instructions of the Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Muhammadu Bawumia and the approval of the Minister of Education, Mathew Opoku Prempeh.

“We are here this morning to fulfill a major campaign promise per the instructions of the vice president of the Republic H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who is represented by his aid Mr. Osei Kwadwo”.

“Somewhere last year or two a teacher who was going about his normal duties formerly at Esiakwa Salvation JHS, got murdered by some individual persons in the community.

His untimely death brought untold hardship on the family so the Minister of Education, Mr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and myself made a strong promise to assist the family of the murdered teacher.”

 “Two of the children are under the age of eighteen and are currently   enjoying the government free high school (FHS) and free basic school (FBS).

However, the eldest of his children,Charlotte Somuah who is above 18  and completed senior  high school with good results has been granted admission at the Robert Gordon University in Scotland to study nursing.

Based on the promise and the need to increase accessibility as outlined in the sustainable development Goal program ( SDG ), the honorable Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, per the instructions of the vice president of Ghana H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has awarded a scholarship to take care of tuition and  maintenance of the daughter of the late Somuah of Esiakwa.

The scholarship package includes everything  from air  ticket  from Accra to Scotland and back after her tuition.

George Somuah Bosompem, the 57-year-old tutor of Asiakwa Salvation Army Basic School in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region, was brutally beaten to death by  six boys in a  ‘reprisal’ attack owing to a dispute over snails three years ago.
